Tips: Merging into Full-Time Employment
Across the map and in just about every headline the temp labor in some form, be it contingent, contract or part-time appears. Its clear that this area of employment is prominent and continues to mark its ground among the economic recession.
The question is, how far will temporary, part-time, contract and contingent work take you? Its true that these areas are proving more bountiful as time moves on. In fact 117,000 temporary jobs have been placed since July and nearly 52,000 in November alone. This year especially, unemployed have been given the opportunity to make ends meet, but it only last so long. Or does it?
Report after report has shared that an increase in part-time workforce is a significant sign to an ending recession. So far the numbers and predictions are holding true as the recession is expected to dwindle greatly starting in 2010.
Slowly but surly, these temporary positions are turning into full-time positions, for good reason. Particularly when you partner with a staffing firm, the job or assignment you are placed on is closely related to your skills and knowledge. when this occurs, 9 times out of 10 your confidence is carried over adding an even greater performance level. Although there is never a guarantee that your temporary position will become a permanent one, success in this has been accompanied by these simple tips.
1. Be attentive and determined not overwhelming when job searching.
It is possible to follow up too much. When applying for jobs, if apart from a staffing agency, it is necessary to follow up after interviews if you haven’t heard back right away. However, too much calling can result in a sort of unintentional annoyance, most likely ridding you of that chance. Politely call the employer back a couple times and if it seems uncertain, move on and start your search again.
2. Always be willing and flexible.
When companies hire contingent labor, through staffing firms or through direct connections, their main objective is to make a quick and efficient addition to a project or area they have in place. If you show up ready to work with a flexible schedule, (yes this means nights and weekends too) chances are it'll boost your ranking and prove to your employer that you mean business.
3. Show what you know.
There may be nothing more irritating than an employee that keeps his personal work load to the absolute minimum. Meaning they perform at the lowest point of requirements. It is important not only to the companies health but to your productive work ethic that you show everything you can do, including your willingness and ability to learn. Ask your employer if there are extra projects you can take on or additional areas you can help in. This will show your employers that your capable of adjusting to new tasks in a timely manner.
Companies nation wide agree that these three easy steps can carry you a long way. They understand the time of desperation job seekers are faced with and have been adapting to the contingent trends. It is important to carry a respectful, strong and consistent work ethic. It will pay off.
